How to Cancel Take 5 Car Wash Membership

Submit a cancellation request through the manage-membership form linked from the Take 5 membership page at least 7 days before your billing date. Miss that window and you’ll be charged for another month.
You’ll need your RFID number, the 11-digit code on the sticker inside your windshield.
You can also cancel in person just ask an attendant at the location where you signed up.
Either way, get a confirmation email or receipt and keep it. Take 5 doesn’t refund partial months, but your wash access stays active until your next renewal.
- The online form is the route that works; the counter often doesn’t.
- You need the 11-digit RFID number from your windshield sticker.
- No cancellation fee, but no refund or proration either.
- A chargeback is the last resort, not the first move.
Ways to Cancel Take 5
Take 5 gives you three ways to end a membership, but they’re not equal. One is official, one is slow, and one depends on which attendant you get.
| Method | What You Need | Turnaround |
|---|---|---|
| Online form | Name, 11-digit RFID, signup location | 24 to 48 hours |
| Email customer care | Name, RFID, phone, signup location | Around 3 business days |
| At the location | License plate, account name | On the spot, if staffed |
Canceling Online
The reliable route is the online form, which Take 5’s own terms name as the way to submit. Have your windshield RFID number ready first.
- Find the 11-digit RFID number on your windshield sticker, formatted like 12345+123456, plus symbol included.
- Open the manage-membership form from the Take 5 membership page.
- Enter your name, RFID number, account email, and signup location.
- Submit at least seven days before your next billing date.
- Watch for the confirmation email, and screenshot the form in case it never arrives.
The detail Take 5’s page doesn’t stress is that the confirmation email is the whole game.
Without it you have no proof the request landed, and this is where requests go missing.

If your location has already switched to Whistle Express, cancellation may run through the Whistle app instead. Check there first.
At locations still on the old system, the online form remains the only working route.
Canceling in Person
Ask an attendant at the location where you signed up to cancel your membership.
Bring your RFID number or license plate so they can find your account.
This route depends entirely on the attendant and location. Some cancel on the spot, and others send you back to the online form.
Ask for written or emailed confirmation before you leave. A verbal “it’s done” isn’t proof if a charge lands later.
Canceling by Phone or Email
Email is the workable backup. The phone route is unreliable.
Send a written request to Take 5 customer care with your name, RFID number, phone, account email, and signup location, asking them to reply with the cancellation date.
Be careful with phone numbers from third-party sites. They list different, unverified numbers, so use the contact route on Take 5’s own site.
Email is slower, with replies reported to take several days, so send it well before your 7-day cutoff.
Why Rules Vary by Location
Take 5 grew by acquiring regional chains, and that patchwork is why cancellation quality varies so much between sites.
Whistle Express bought Take 5’s US car washes in 2025 and is rebranding them. Locations that have switched run on a different system.
So a form or number that worked at one site may not apply at another.
A Milwaukee news investigation into Take 5 cancellation complaints found former employees describing a payment-software switch that left memberships from acquired locations stuck in the old system.
Some sites were shuttered with cones across the entrance while billing continued.
So don’t trust the counter at a recently acquired site. Use the form, get the email, and treat any in-person promise as unconfirmed until something in writing backs it.
The Billing Date Rule
Your plan renews on your signup anniversary, and a cancellation must land at least seven days before that date or you’re billed another full month.
There’s no proration and no refund.
Say your plan renews on the 20th. Submit the form by the 13th and the cancellation takes effect that cycle.
Submit on the 15th and you’ve missed the window, so the 20th charges and the cancellation applies the following month instead.
Your washes stay active through the paid period either way.
If They Keep Charging You
Work through this in order, bank last. Most stray charges trace to a request that never got a confirmation or landed inside the seven-day window.
- Check your email, spam included, for a confirmation re-submit if you never got one.
- Email customer care with your RFID number and submission date, and ask for the cancellation date in writing.
- Visit your signup location and have the manager confirm account status and print a receipt.
- Only after a confirmed cancellation still gets charged, dispute it with your card issuer, confirmation attached.
A chargeback works far better when you can show the bank a written cancellation the company ignored. Keep the confirmation email.

If Take 5 agrees to refund you directly instead of going through your bank, expect it to take 3 to 5 business days to land back on your card.
Cancellation rules differ by chain. The Mister Car Wash cancellation steps run on a different notice window, so don’t assume what worked at Take 5 applies elsewhere.
Downgrading Instead of Canceling
If cost is the issue, switching to a cheaper tier keeps the plan without canceling.
Take 5’s prepaid 6 and 12 month plans also swap the monthly auto-renewal for a fixed term that just expires.
A prepaid plan is worth considering for this reason alone. It can’t auto-renew, so it needs no cancellation. You pay once, wash for the term, and it ends on its own.
If you’re weighing a downgrade against leaving, the Take 5 car wash prices show what each tier costs.
